Response to Assignment 1D: What did I learn about sound design?
I have learned so much about myself from this project. My taste, vision, my preferred method of filmmaking, and the list goes on. As a dancer, the music is essential to the performance, but now as a filmmaker I have found a home in dancing with my images to compliment and accentuate the music, In Dr. Kases's History of Avante-Garde we recently studied the words of the structure film and its filmmakers. I immediately took a liking to Paul Scharits's T,O,U,C,H,I,N,G due to its use of the flicker film. It was crazy to view something so similar to my pace of thought and visually reminiscent of this project. The visual compliments the audio in a manner I have not seen anywhere before. "Destroy, destroy, destory, destroy-----." My classmates responded saying "If they went to hell, then this is what they would see." I was just about to mention how I identified with this film in so many ways because as I grow grow up struggling with ADHD, I have battled to keep up with the pace of my thoughts that are as rapid as a flickering light. I have met a film genre that caters to the emotional state I have lived in my entire life. After I completed assignment 1D, I took a step back and really asked myself, "Wow, did I actually make this?" It was one of those moments where I completed something totally foreign to me (seeing sound, hearing image) in a manner I did not think I could. Overall, I think I have found an area in film production I want to continue to explore.
