Martha Colburn, December 5th

Culture Jamming: Martha Colburn (Marika & Amy)      Martha Colburn's pop cultural imagery on the permanence of film is her preferred stylistic preference. This mode of filmmaker defines her filmic identity. I appreciate her use of subliminal messaging in her political work and how she distinguishes these "tiny messages" in her big personality films. Combining her dark edges qualities to her collageque pop-rock minded media, it really intrigues me how all forms of art are integrated in her filmography. There is something rather breathtaking in her chaotic filmmaking. Maybe it is how the nature of the film stock combines with the unnatural elements of pop-roc and collage to create this duality. A quality which follows in all of her artwork.
